Should Manson Murderer Leslie Van Houten Be Set Free?

Published by Tony Brueski on

A California appeals court has ruled that Leslie Van Houten, a former member of the Charles Manson cult who participated in two murders in 1969, should be released on parole. This ruling overrules previous decisions by Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Gov. Jerry Brown, who denied Van Houten’s parole due to their belief she still poses a danger to society. However, the judges of the appellate court argue that Van Houten has shown considerable rehabilitation and remorse over the years. The final decision on Van Houten’s release might still be reviewed by the state Supreme Court, following a request by California’s Attorney General.
